Eagles had a comfortable win over their visitors who play in the premier division of the Herts Senior County League, a level below Letchworth.
St Margaretsbury were first to threaten the opposition goal and should have scored after 10 minutes. Eagles lost possession in midfield and the ball was played down the centre of the field giving the chance of a clear shot on goal, but Adam Seymour made a great save to push the low shot away from goal for a corner. A few minutes later a free kick into Eagles penalty area was not cleared and a shot fired over the crossbar. After 18 minutes Eagles ha a similar chance to score at the other end when a direct free kick from the left touchline was flighted into the penalty area but then fired just over the top corner of the net from the edge of the penalty area. Shortly after Will Blair was carried off with a bad leg injury.
After 23 minutes St Margaretsbury created another chance to score with a long ball down the centre. The forward turned inside a defender, but his low shot passed wide of the near post. At the other end an Eagles free kick from the right touchline was floated into the penalty area but was headed just over the crossbar from near the penalty spot. Rod Agyeman -Duah was a constant threat for the Eagles down the left side and he almost scored on the half hour with a run down the centre but put his shot over the crossbar. He then did score after 44 minutes. In a move down the left side Mark Summers beat an opponent and squared the ball into the penalty area for Agyeman-Duah to run on to and shrug off a defender to push the ball into an open goal from the edge of the goal area.
Within a minute Eagles had a second goal when Ollie Humphreyes headed a corner into the net at the far post from close range. In added time St Margaretsbury had a direct free kick on the edge of Eagles penalty area in a central position, but the chance was lost when the kick was directed into the defensive wall.
After half time Eagles replacement keeper Zack Vernon had to make an early save at the foot of his post before play switched to the other end and the visiting keeper was called into action to hold a goal bound shot. Neither side posed a threat to goal until after 82 minutes Agyeman-Duah was brought down in the penalty area, and a spot kick was awarded to Eagles. Up stepped Summers to calmly send the keeper the wrong way and sidefoot the ball into the net.
10minutes later and into added time St Margaretsbury also gained a penalty. Eagles lost possession near the half way line and a long ball was played down the centre of the field for a forward to chase. As he entered the penalty area he was brought down by the defender chasing him. The penalty was clinically dispatched after sending the Eagles keeper the wrong way. In the closing minutes Eagles pressed forward but a fierce shot from outside the pen
